Cuba to seek bronze medal in baseball at Alba Games

 HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 25 (ACN) The Cuban baseball team will compete tomorrow for the bronze medal against Nicaragua at the 5th Alba Games tournament being held at the Jorge Luis Garcia Carneiro stadium in the Venezuelan state of La Guaira.

Only four teams took part in this competition: Cuba, Nicaragua and two teams from the host country. The Cubans and both Venezuelan teams finished the qualifying phase with a similar 2-1 record, and to decide which teams would advance to the championship, the TQB (Team Quality Balance) had to be used, which favored the host teams.

On the last day, Cuba won against Nicaragua (7-0) and, if Venezuela B beat the top team of the same country, then Cuba would advance.

But that was not the case as Venezuela A defeated its rival 2-1 and the Cuban team was left out of the title game by just one run.

At bat, Dairon Montalvo and Darian Palma were the best for Cuba.
