Cuba wins judo mixed team event and great performance in taekwondo at Alba Games

 HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 25 (ACN) Cuba dominated the judo tournament of the 5th ALBA Games with a golden closing, winning the mixed team judo tournament, held at the National Judo Center of the United Nations Park in the Libertador municipality, in Caracas.

The Cuban men's and women's teams ended the weekend on top of the individual category, with 10 gold medals, three silver and one bronze, and on Monday they repeated their superiority to occupy the top position, followed by the host Venezuela and Nicaragua, in that order.

Cuba opened against the local team and then against Nicaragua, and in both cases they beat them 4-0, with the highlight that all eight successes were by Ippon.

The young Cuban judocas closed with 11-3-1, followed by the Venezuelans (4-10-2), Nicaragua (0-2-11) and Bolivia (0-0-2).

Regarding taekwondo, the Cubans won seven golden and six silver medals and one bronze in the tournament.

They finished second in the medal table by country in kyorugui (sparring) and first in poomsae (imaginary fight).

The team captain, Guillermo Enrique Perez, 87 kilograms (kg), scored brilliant results in the duels, defeating in the final the local Anthony Perez, in an event with Venezuelan dominance in the medal standings.

Meanwhile, Cuban fighters Marlyn Perez (49 kg), Zalarit Cortes (57 kg) and Arletty Acosta (67 kg) were also champions, according to the official tables of the event.

The Cubans also won three silver medals and a bronze one, in addition, the nation led the poomsae with three titles and three silver medals, with a special mention for Indira Delgado, the only two-time champion in the competition.
