Cuban Linares to face chess leader at the Alba Games

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 24 (ACN) Cuban Oleiny Linares will face today the leader of the chess tournament of the 5th Alba Games, held in Venezuela, with the aim of improving her second position in the ranking after the first four rounds have concluded.

The current Cuban queen reached three units on Sunday and will now move the black pieces against the host Felix Jose Ynojosa, whose perfect performance places him at the top of the ranking.

In the previous double round of the competition, agreed to nine rounds at the Hotel Las Americas in Caracas, Oleiny defeated Venezuelan Dilson Alejandro Peña shortly after sharing the honors with the Nicaraguan Marcos Ortiz.

In turn, Ynojosa beat Nicaragua's Alberto Javier Salazar and Cuba's Ynojosa beat Cuba's Cuba's Yerisbel Miranda, who finished on 2.5 points and will be the rival of Jose Nahum Espinoza, another of Nicaragua's representatives.

The Cuban presence in the event is completed with Yaniela Forgas and Lisandra Ordaz, who accumulated three and 2.5 units, in that order,to occupy the fourth and eighth places.

Monday, Yaniela will face local player Castro and Lisandra Ordaz to Nicaragua's Ortiz.

The four Cubans are the only women taking part in the absolute segment of the competition, a circumstance that has not prevented them from advancing among the top ten contestants in the second half of the tournament.

Lisandra has already won a gold medal in the Blitz games tournament with which the chess program began in this multisport event.
