Cuba for more medals and tickets in rowing qualifying tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 18 (ACN) Cuban rowers will seek today to win more medals and continental tickets in the continuation of the qualifying tournament for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, held at the San Pedro de La Paz Lagoon of that South American nation.

After the silver medal and the fifth place achieved on Monday by the men's four pair (4x), the Cubans will try for another golden metal and another place with the men's coxless four (4-), composed of Carlos Ajete, Reidy Cardona and Andrei Barnet, who will be in action in the final A.

Previously, the singles (1x) and doubles pair (2x), in both genders, had already secured their participation in the Chilean multisport event of 2023, without the need to line up in the finals A lanes.

The silver quartet and classified in the 4x was integrated by Yoelvis Hernandez, Ajete, Maykol Alvarez and Cardona, so if they comply, Ajete and Cardona would become double medalists and owners of two tickets.

Angel Luis Garcia, president and national commissioner of this sport, informed the Cuban News Agency that Tuesday will also take to the 2,000-meter aquatic track, the women's and men's 4-medalists of Yariulvis Cobas, Natalie Morales, Milena Venegas and Claudia Tolon, and Ajete, Cardona, Barnet and Luis Leon.

The two quartets will be in the finals B that gives out the places from seven to 12, but if they are included among the first three places, they qualify, Garcia added.

Men's and women's singles players Yoelvis Hernandez and Ana Laura Jimenez, who have already qualified, will also compete in the A/B semifinals, respectively.
