HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 26 (ACN) Andy Granda (+100 kg) and Ivan Silva (90 kg) won bronze medals in the closing day of the Judo Grand Slam Tbilisi and placed Cuba in 18th place of the tournament.
Granda, world champion in Tashkent 2022 and third in the Grand Slam recently held in that city, outmatched the Korean Seungyeob Lee, whereas Silva, second in Baku 2018 and third in Tashkent, beat the Greek Theodoro Tselidis for the bronze medal.
Cuba, with only five judokas in a competition attended by 419 athletes from 61 countries and won by the host country, was 18th on the medal table thanks to Granda’s and Silva’s bronze medals and the 7th place achieved by Magdiel Estrada (73 kg).
The other two Cubans who competed in Tbilisi were Orlando Polanco (66 kg), who won one match and lost another, and Kimy Bravo (66 kg), who was defeated in his debut.
