Havana, March 22 (ACN) The Pan-Am Weightlifting Federation is considering conditions in Cuba to host the first Weightlifting Grand Prix of Havana, which is classificatory for Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Federation president Jose Carlos Quinones was welcomed at Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport by Jorge Luis Barcelan, president of the Cuban Weightlifting Federation.
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has officially scheduled Havana’s Grand Prix for June 8 to 18, a first category meet since it is classificatory for the Olympic Games.
The idea of having Havana as venue of the championship was considered in March 2022 during the 40th Manuel Suarez in Memoriam weightlifting competition, and the visit here by Michael Irani, IWF president.
