 Cuban Herrera debuts winning at the International Badminton Tournament GiraldillaHAVANA, Cuba, Mar 16 (ACN) Roberto Carlos Herrera stood up for Cuba in the morning session of the Giraldilla International Badminton Tournament in Havana, which in its 21st edition began today in this capital and will last until March 19.

At the Ciudad Deportiva coliseum, Herrera made his debut with a victory over Canadian Shubh Krishan, with scores of 21-13 and 21-10, thus advancing to the round of 16 in the men's singles event.

The other nine Cubans lost in their first matches.

The Caribbean nation's top badminton player, Taymara Oropesa, will make her debut at noon and will face Peru's Munar in the round of 16.

After four years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event returns to the competitive calendar, so it will be a good opportunity for the 22 Cuban racquetball players participating.

The Giraldilla of Havana will give 1,700 units for the list of the world to the winners in each of its five modalities and the attendance of more than 30 players representing Canada, Croatia, United Kingdom, Israel, Peru, Jamaica, Guatemala, Ecuador, United States, Indonesia and Bulgaria has been confirmed.
