HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 3 (ACN) Cuba is on the Olympic podium, if not in the first place, emphasized today the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, at the Pan American Stadium in Havana, after inaugurating an athletic track donated by Panam Sports.
It is a very important nation in sports, its more than 200 Olympic medals, with a population of less than 12 million inhabitants, is an Olympic record, Bach pointed out.
With these results, Cuba is "on the podium, if not in the place of gold, of the Olympic Games", IOC executive highlighted in a meeting with the Cuban and foreign press.
Regarding his activities in the nation, the official said that these are key moments for him to dialogue with the successful and competitive Cuban athletes, who are the future of sports in the country and in the world.
Arriving in Cuba on Thursday, along with the president of Panam Sports and other officials, Bach departs this afternoon, after touching meetings with Cuban champions and with great memories of the brilliant past and encouraging perspectives of sports in Cuba.
