HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (ACN) Cuba qualified its complete teams in the different modalities of fighting and imaginary combat for the taekwondo tournament of the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023.
In kyorugi the Cuban fighters were undefeated, while in poomsae they met the expectations by achieving the places in the last hours in the fight held at the Palacio de los Deportes de Heredia, in Costa Rica.
According to the specialized website Mundo Taekwondo, the bouts were full of emotions, where exponents of powers such as Mexico and Cuba shone, in a competition that included the novelty of KT3, where teams face each other in three rounds, with rotation of opponents according to the strategies of the coaches.
For Cuba, two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Rafael Alba and Tamara Robles, both champions in the previous Central American and Caribbean Games, those of Barranquilla 2018, stand out in the selection.
San Salvador's taekwondo will compete in the Dominican Republic's sub-venue, in games scheduled from June 23 to July 8.
The Cubans will compete until Saturday in Heredia in the Pan American Series, an event that provides points for the world ranking, according to the program on the official website of World Taekwondo, the governing organization of this sport.
