HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 22 (ACN) Some Cuban chess players strived to win a medal in the last round of the 32nd Carlos Torre Repetto In Memoriam International Chess Tournament held in Merida, Mexico and won by the Peruvian Jose Eduardo Martinez.
Martinez beat the Cuban Carlos Daniel Albornoz—who longed for his third consecutive crown in these competitions but finished seventh this time—and scored seven points, a result no other player achieved.
As to the rest of the Cuban team, Ernesto Quesada was fourth, whereas among the women Yerisbel Miranda ended up in 29th place.
