HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 15 (ACN) The seventh place of Cuban weightlifter Ayamey Medina in the overall classification of the 81 kilograms (kg) bodyweight division ended Cuba's meritorious participation at the World Weightlifting Championships Bogota 2022.
The Cuban registered as best results 111 kg in the snatch exercise and 142 in the rebound, for a total of 253, according to the results tables on the official website of the International Weightlifting Federation.
Medina finished seventh in the snatch and fourth in the rebound, thus fulfilling the expectations of the Cuban delegation, with its four contestants among the 12 best in the world, according to the Cuban Weightlifting Federation (FCLP by its Spanish acronym) on its Facebook page.
Earlier, Arley Calderon (11th place in the 61 kg) and Olfides Saez and Ariolvis Begue (sixth and 10th places respectively in the 89 kg) competed for Cuba.
After the competition, which gathers 537 weightlifters from 93 countries from December 5 to 16, the qualifying table for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be updated.
