HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) Cuban Carlos Ajete advanced today to the finals A of the Central American and Caribbean Rowing Championship, after dominating their respective elimination heats in the single (1x) and double pair of short oars (2x), in the open category.
On venue at the Virgilio Uribe Olympic track in the Mexican capital, Ajete won the 1x with a time of 8:06.75 minutes, followed by the representatives of El Salvador (8:20.04) and Colombia (8:47.25), in that order.
Angel Luis Garcia, president and commissioner of the Cuban Federation, added that in the 2x, the time registered that guaranteed the victory to Ajete and Reidy Cardona was 7:14.16, followed by the Dominican (7:23.34) and Puerto Rican (7:27.34) crews, respectively.
Cuba has 10 athletes, led by Ajete, the main contender who will also row the four pair of short sculls (4x), and Milena Venegas, who will also be in the 1x, 2x and 4x.
Cubans will compete in the 13 modalities called -several in more than one-, with the aim of getting tickets in all of them for the Central American and Caribbean Games of El Salvador 2023.
