Cuban archers in team trials today at Pan American Games



HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (ACN) Cuba will be today in the eliminations of the team trials of the Pan and Para Pan American Archery Championships in Santiago de Chile.

Cuban archers Leydis Posada and Alejandro Hernandez, who will see action as athletes with disabilities, aim to finish among the top 11 in the individual round in order to qualify for the continental tournament.

On Tuesday, Cuba's representatives set three national records: in the 70-m double round of the recurve, Hugo Franco scored 677 points to break the previous mark of 666 achieved by former archer Juan Carlos Stevens in 2016 and finish third in the competition, behind the Mexican Matías Grande (682) and the Colombian Jorge Enríquez (679).

Among the women, Elizabeth Rodríguez notched up a new national record with 327 points in the first round of 36 shots at 70 meters, improving the previous mark of Maydenia Sarduy (326). Rodríguez finished second in the general classification, won by the American Casey Kaufhold (662).

Finally, Franco and Rodriguez’s joint score of 1,318 points helped Cuba improved the national record in the 70-m double round for mixed teams, which adds the points of the best man and the best woman of each country.
