Cubans to debut in beach volleyball at 1rst Sea and Beach Games in Santa Marta 2022

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 18 (ACN) Cubans Nelson Diaz-Jose Luis Alayo, and Amanda Armenteros-Jennifer Rivera will debut against the duos of Mexico and El Salvador, in that order, in the beach volleyball tournament of the 1st Central American and Caribbean Sea and Beach Games of Santa Marta 2022.

According to the website of the Colombian multidisciplinary event, Diaz and Alayo will open the actions next Wednesday against the Mexican duo in the preliminary group D, while Armenteros and Rivera will do it in group C against the Salvadoran women.

Beach volleyball will feature 16 pairs (m and f) and is the sport with the greatest podium possibilities for Cuba, which will participate with 14 athletes in three of the 10 disciplines announced by the organizers.

Diaz and Alayo stand out for the results achieved this year, with the 17th place in the world championship in Rome, Italy, and the gold, silver and bronze medals in the stops of Aguascalientes, Punta Cana and Varadero of the North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca) circuit, in that order.

In addition to fighting for the world ticket in the Colombian city, the Cubans consider the multisport commitments of 2023, when the Central American and Caribbean Games will be held in San Salvador, June 28 to July 8, the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile (October 20-November 5) and the ALBA Games to be hosted by Venezuela (April 3-10).
