Cubans lose in their first bouts at the IBSA Judo World Championship 2022

 HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 8 (ACN) Cubans Jennys Garcia and Yonaldi Gonzalez, both in the 60 kilograms (kg) J1 category, lost today in their first bouts in the individual tournament of the IBSA World Championships, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Senen Ramos, head coach of the men's team, reported that after being bye in the opening round of preliminaries, Gonzalez lost in his debut against Iraq's Q. Abdulrhman, who won by choke -adaka jime-.

Regarding Garcia's setback, he detailed that it was also in the second round of the elimination heats, but against Brazilian R. Paixao by immobilization -osae komi-, after injuring a rib when he performed a bridge and turns for the start.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, the individual competition will conclude and Sheila Samarian (70 kg-J2), Reynaldo Zamora (90 kg-J2) and Yordani Fernandez (+90 kg-J1), Paralympic champion in Rio de Janeiro 2016, will be in action for Cuba.

Thursday will be the mixed team tournament, but not by sexes, as it will be between women J1 and J2, and between men, J1 and J2.

The J1 category groups parajudocas with visual acuity of less than or equal to LogMAR 2.6 in binocular vision and J2 to those with visual acuity within a range between LogMAR 1.3 and 2.5 with binocular vision, or with a binocular visual field of 60 degrees or less in diameter.
