HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 26 (ACN) The National Baseball Commission announced today the roster of 24 players that will represent Cuba in the upcoming U-23 World Championship, to be held in Taipei, China, October 13-23.
The team, which will be coached by Alain Alvarez along with Julio Cesar Alvarez Perez, Dioel Reyes Viquillon, Pedro Luis Lazo Iglesias and Roberto Gonzalez Bonachea, is made up of two catchers, seven infielders, four outfielders and 11 pitchers.
The catchers are Andrys Perez Garcia and Brayan Javier Gonzalez Baino, while the infielders are Pedro Pablo Revilla Leiva, Christian Leandro Rodriguez Garcia, Yuri Marcos Fernandez de Armas, Carlos Rafael Rodriguez Gonzalez, Cristihan Hidalgo Chavez, Ariel Alejandro Diaz Pared and Jeifer Rodriguez Hernandez.
Guillermo Garcia Garcia Garcia, Dany de Jesus Oramas Navarro, Carlos Antonio Monier Torres and Dairon Montalvo Castillo made the grade as outfielders.
The summoned pitchers are Naykel Yoel Cruz Saldivar, Oscar Ernesto Hernandez Horta, Leodan Manuel Reyes Lugo, Roberto Enrique Hernandez Navarro, Alexander Valiente Rodriguez, Marlon Vega Travieso, Frank Abel Alvarez Diaz, Randy Cueto Perez, Alex Guerra, Luis Alejandro Serpa Socarras and Andy Vargas Lescaille.
Cuba has only participated in one edition of these competitions, the one held in 2021 in Hermosillo, Mexico, in which it finished in fourth place, and this year it was placed in group B, along with Puerto Rico, Australia, South Korea, the Netherlands and Mexico.
