Cuban sailing duo starts today at Snipe qualifying event

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 9 (ACN) Cubans Rene Torrecillas and Lorena Fundora will compete from today until next Sunday at the North American Snipe Championship, at the Etobiconke Yacht Club, in Toronto, Canada.

The mixed crew from Cuba will be led by coach Laura Yanez, who expects a good performance from her pupils in the competition that gives out two places for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023.

The organizers have announced the presence of 13 boats -mixed- from four countries, with the largest number for the United States (7), Canada (4), Puerto Rico (1) and Cuba (1).

Puerto Rico's Snipe, composed of Raul Rios and Andrea Riefko, appears among the favorites to win the crown, mainly because of the results achieved by Rios, world champion in La Coruña 2017 and Pan American in Toronto 2015 -mixed crew from the Pan American Games in Lima 2019 for the continental multisport events-.

In August, Cuba competed as a guest in the 50th edition of the Snipe Open World Championship, based in Cascais, Portugal, with the duos Nelido Manso-Sanlay Castro and Pedro Vega-Darien Martinez.
