HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 30 (ACN) Cuban men's national team faces Japan today, in the continuation of the 20th edition of the Volleyball World Championship, held until September 11 in Slovenia and Poland.
After losing 2-3 to undefeated Brazil, in Group B, in the Slovenian city of Ljubljana, and defeating Qatar 3-1, the Cubans will be looking for the victory that will guarantee them direct advancement to the qualifying round of 16.
A victory for Nicolas Vives' boys at the end of the group stage would ratify them in second place with three wins and one loss, since the Brazilians are the favorites to beat the Qataris and finish with three successive victories at the top.
Undoubtedly, the Japanese will be a tough opponent for the Cubans, who will have to do everything right on the field, led by Jesus Herrera, top scorer of the tournament so far with 40 points, and second most outstanding attacker (38).
Other players expected to perform outstandingly are Roberlandy Simon, who shares the lead among blockers (7), and Yonder Garcia, second in defense (10), according to the statistics of the International Federation's website.
