Cuban Olfides Saez finishes six at 2022 Pan American Weightlifting Champ

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 28 (ACN) Cuba's results in the last hours at the Pan American Weightlifting Championship in Colombia, include the discreet sixth place of Olfides Saez, three-time champion of the Rome 2019 World Cup.

In Bogota, in the 89 kilograms (kg) bodyweight division, the Cuban only got one valid exercise in the snatch and one in the deadlift, out of six attempts in total.

Saez lifted 155 kg in the snatch, but then failed twice with 160 kg.

Finally, he failed in the flyweight at the start with 193 kg, which he then dominated, before failing with 200 kg.

For Cuba, Aryolvis Begue ranked fifth among 15 participants, with 156 kg in the snatch and 194 kg in the flyweight, for a total of 350, in a category dominated in the three categories by the Colombian Brayan Santiago Rodallegas (172, 210 and 382).

So far, the best day for Cuba in the tournament was the first one, on Sunday, when Arley Calderon was runner-up in the repulsion and total in the 61 kg division and Osmel Argote won bronze in the repulsion and total in the 55 kg category, in a competition with 163 contestants from 22 countries in the women's section and 161 from 23 nations in the men's until July 30.
