Cuban weightlifters will try today to qualify for Pan American Games

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 26 (ACN) The Cubans Edisnel Corrales and José Herrera (81 kg) will compete today in the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Colombia—a qualifier for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023—against tough rivals such as their peers from Colombia, Canada and the Dominican Republic.

On the first day of the competition, the Cuban Arley Calderon (61 kg) finished second in clean-and-jerk, whereas Osmel Argote (55 kg) won the bronze medal in won bronze in clean-and-jerk and total.

The tournament gathers 163 women and 161 men athletes from 22 and 23 nations, respectively, including 20 Cubans (10 of each sex).
