HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 15 (ACN) Cuban judokas Arnaes Odelin and Danny Porte will debut today for Cuba in the first day of the Grand Prix of Zagreb, a competition that gathers 503 athletes from 69 countries until Sunday at the Arena of that Croatian city.
According to the site of the International Federation, Odelin, in the 57 kilograms (kg), will have as her first rival the American Mariah Holguin, in the pool D.
Meanwhile, Ponte (60 kg) will face Kazakh Magzhan Shamshadn, in Pool C, where 44 judokas will compete, on a date that will also include 48 and 52 kg for women and 66 kg for men.
This Saturday, the actions will continue and Magdiel Estrada (73 kg) and Maylin del Toro (63 kg) will compete, while on Sunday Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg), Kaliema Antomarchi (78), Ivan Silva (90 kg) and Andy Granda (+100 kg) will be in action.
Cubans recently won a silver medal and two bronze ones at the Grand Slam in Budapest, Hungary, where they ranked tenth by countries, a position that also contributed to the fifth place achieved by Silva and del Toro, as well as Antomarchi's seventh position.
Once the Grand Prix is over, the next step is the World Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, October 6-13.
