Cuban Diaz, key in her team's advance to final of Serbian water polo league

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 11 (ACN) The Red Star Belgrade club qualified to the final of the Premier League A of Serbia, after the second round of the semifinals, in which this weekend the offense of Cuban Cecilia Diaz Mesa led the red-and-white team to advance.

After the victory in Banjica in the first match a week ago, with a score of 18-13, the Belgian team lost by a score of 14-11 in the second match, but thanks to a more convincing victory in the first game they reached the final, where they will fight for the title against Vojvodina, Red Star announced on its official website.

The overall goal difference in favor of the Red-and-White team was consolidated with the contribution of the Cuban player, top scorer in the last match.

Diaz Mesa stood out in Zvezda (original name of the team) with four goals, highlighted the team's board of directors in the review of the confrontation.

The Cuban player, in the middle of the second half, tied the game 3-3. At the end of the first half, Partizan regained the lead but Tara Pejčić secured the equalizer before the break (4-4).

In the third quarter came the attacks; the teams took turns in the lead, first Diaz Mesa scored, then Partizan caught up with Red Star on the scoreboard and got a lead that was maintained despite the home team's attacks.

The partial scores were 2-3, 2-1, 5-5 and 2-5.

Vojvodina, Serbian champion last season after a hard-fought match with the red-and-whites, is the only team that has beaten the Belgrade team in the Danube League and the Serbian Cup and League, tournaments in which the Cuban player has excelled.
