Cuba puts finishing touches to is Superior Basketball League

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 30 (ACN) With six women’s and eight men’s teams, the Superior Basketball League (LSB) is finalizing details for the start on April 2 of one of Cuba's main sports events.

Basketball commissioner Dalia Henry told ACN that some details regarding transportation and lodging are still pending, but the National Institute of Sports, Education, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) has worked nonstop to provide the best possible conditions for athletes, coaches, referees and the whole LSB staff.

The competition will be based on a two-round round robin system leading up to the qualification of the top four teams for the semifinals, where they will have to win three out of five games to be in the grand final, scheduled for June 5 to 12.

Despite the absence of several athletes hired by foreign leagues, the LSB will contribute to the development of many new talents and prospects, whereas young Cuban coaches will gain experience. However, those players can join their teams in Cuba—either during the regular season or in the playoffs—as soon as they finish their tournaments abroad.
