HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 18 (ACN) With her best mark of the season, 52.25 seconds (sec), Cuban runner Roxana Gomez qualified today to the semifinals of the 400 meters flat (m/p) at the World Indoor Athletics Championships, in its 18th edition in Belgrade, Serbia, until March 20.
In heat 5 of the preliminary phase, Gomez was fourth at the finish line, although she guaranteed her ticket to the next round by time, in an event in which the first two of each heat and the owners of the two best times advanced to the semifinal stage.
In this way, 12 four-time riders will look for their place in the final, this Friday afternoon.
Gomez already knows what it means to be a finalist in a major competition, after achieving it in the summer event in Tokyo, where she was included among the first eight of the oval lap with a personal best of 49.71 sec.
So far this year, on February 12, he finished second at the World Athletics Indoor Tour bronze medal in the athletics meeting in Dortmund, Germany, in an event where he achieved a time of 52.60 seconds, improving his time from the winter tour at the meeting in Mondeville, France, where he clocked 54.33 seconds.
