HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 8 (ACN) Cuban women's polo players will debut today at the Intercontinental Cup, to be held in Lima, Peru, against the United States, the biggest power in women's water polo, whose goalkeeper was Olympic champion in 2021 and world champion in the last two editions.
Goalkeeper Arisney Ramos and attackers Madonnis Chavez and Thaimi Gonzalez, as well as the experienced Daniuska Carrasco (post) and Lisbeth Santana (defense) will open the match. Substitutes will be Aliannis Ramirez, Maidelis Delgado, Jennifer Plasencia, Emily Salcedo, Jessica Fonseca, Mairelis Zunzunegui and Lesdyanis Wilson.
The North American team is a mix of new and established players, while Cubans are a very competitive fusion of players who shine in the country and in European leagues, with a balanced level in the quality of all its members, with a commendable participation at the 2019 World Championship.
Led by former polo player Jorge del Valle, the Cubans will face Australia, Canada, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, in that order, from tomorrow until Sunday.
