Cuba goes for all gold medals at Caribbean table tennis championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 8 (ACN) With tennis players competing in the four singles semifinals and in the two doubles gold contests, Cuba could reach all the golds at the Caribbean Championships, which concludes today in Havana, where the country already boasts the disputed titles.

Today, in the doubles finals, Olympian Daniela Fonseca and rising star Karla Perez will face Puerto Ricans Dianely Rios and Fabiola Diaz, then, Olympian Jorge Moises Campos and undefeated Czech league player Livan Martinez will play against also from Puerto Rico Oscar Birriel and Richard Pietri, according to the schedule of the International Table Tennis Federation.

In the individual semifinals, Fonseca will play against Rios, Idalys Lovet against Dominican Eva Brito, Adrian Perez against Puerto Rican Daniel Gonzalez and Campos against Puerto Rican Angel Naranjo, so there is a possibility of duels between Cubans for the gold medals.

Cuba won the women's and men's team titles last Saturday and on Monday night won the mixed doubles title, with Fonseca and Campos, who participated in that same modality in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics, where Fonseca also competed individually.

The Caribbean Championship grants quotas for the Pan American next October in Santiago de Chile and is a stage to begin the qualification for the 2023 World Championship.
