Sports in western Cuban province to encourage mass practice in 2022

MATANZAS, Cuba, Jan 4 (ACN) Keeping and improving positive experiences from the previous December, related to the massive practice of physical activity, is one of the main premises of Sports in the Cuban province of Matanzas for 2022.

According to Jose L. Gandara Martinez, director of the governing body in this western territory, told Cuban News Agency, the local government intends to continue with the Open Schools project, in an effort to support the vitality of the student center, also on weekends, with sports and cultural activities.
A top priority will be to compete at the basic level, organize inter-class, inter-group, inter-school and other levels to develop skills and physical abilities, explained the director of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER by its Spanish acronym).

Gandara Martinez stressed that at the same time, work will be carried out on the rescue and constructive maintenance of sports facilities, including the first hall of the Palmar de Junco Stadium, a National Monument, and the multipurpose hall of the Ateneo Aurelio Janet, which plans to complete the foundation stage, among others.

He noted that important events such as the North, Central America and Caribbean (NORCECA) beach volleyball tournament, the Masters of open water swimming and the international weightlifting tournament "Manuel Suarez in memoriam" will be held this year in this province.

Matanzas, recognized among the five provinces of the Caribbean nation with the greatest contribution of athletes to national teams, managed in 2021 to include seven athletes in the Olympic Games in Tokyo and 21 in the First Junior Pan American Games in Valle Cali, the latter being the second largest delegation in the country.
