Cali 2021: Divers could win Cuba's first medal today

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) The Cuban divers could win their country’s first medal today, on the third day of the I Junior Pan American Games Cali 2021.

Today’s schedule features the mixed—non-Olympic— event, in which a boy and a girl will compete each in the one-meter and three-meter springboards as well as on the platform.

Coaches Rafael Castañeda and Hugo Pérez de Corcho will have to choose among their pupils, led by Anisley García, platform champion in the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla. The rest of the team members are Prisisleidys Ruíz, Yenifer Miriam Medina, Érika Fabrizia Suñol, Carlos Daniel Ramos, Laydel Domínguez, Luis Gustavo Cañabate and José Alfredo Quintana.

Before leaving for Colombia, it was announced that Anisley would be on the one-meter and three-meter springboards and on the platform, Prisisleidys on the one-meter springboard, Yenifer on the three-meter springboard, and Erika on the platform, whereas Dominguez will be on the one-meter springboard, Quintana on the three-meter springboard, and Cañabate and Ramos on the platform.

Furthermore, the Cuban canoeing specialists will also make their debut, whereas the women’s handball team will have their third preliminary match in Group B against the Dominican Republic, after defeating Brazil (30-29) and losing to Paraguay (23-40).
