Bryan Chi v. Venezuelan "crusher" in U23 Baseball World Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 29 (ACN) Havana right-hander Bryan Chi will take the mound today for the U23 Cuban baseball team to try and hogtie Venezuela’s hitting power in the beginning of the Super Round of the III World Cup of this category, held in Sonora, Mexico.

One of the starters of the Cuban senior team in the last Olympic qualifiers in Florida, Chi will have to tread carefully against the Venezuelan team, which topped the offensive department during the qualifying phase with an excellent AVG of 331 and whose catcher Juan Fernández—429, including a home run and six RBIs—and right fielder Jesús Lujano, who is going 8 for 18.

After losing to defending champion Mexico in the opener, Cuba won four games in a row and enters this stage with a 1-1 record, since it defeated Chinese Taipei.

Manager Eriel Sanchez’s disciples have batted very little (252), with only three doubles, a triple and a home run. Their best hitter has been shortstop Rangel Ramos (438, 7 for 16).

After the Venezuelans, Team Cuba will be opposite Colombia (Thursday) and Panama (Friday), the other teams that made it to the Super Round in Pool B.
