Cuba Joins Celebrations for Wellbeing Week

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 10 (ACN) Cuba is joining the continental Wellbeing Week celebrated in the Americas sponsored by the Pan American and World Health Organizations aimed at creating healthy communities for all.

The celebration, which will run until Friday, is aimed at helping the Health Promotion movement in the region for an access to health for all. This occasion is also to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Declaration of Alma-Ata signed in September of 1978.

Wellbeing Week began in 2011 and was an initiative inspired by the Wellbeing Day of the Caribbean celebrated the second Saturday of September, according to a report on the Cuban Infomed website.

Due to an increase of non-transmittable diseases in the world, this campaign was launched with the objective of mobilizing the institutions, including local authorities; in the commercial, public and private sectors and organizations of civil society to highlight the importance of facilitating good lifestyle.

Wellbeing Week focusses in the creation of healthy communities where each one can be part of the initiative to generate a movement in favor of health for all in our region.

This movement includes the community; residence, school or work and could influence any place that wants to take action: the country, local, interpersonal and individual levels.

In statements to ACN, on occasion of the date, the representative of the PAHO and WHO in Cuba, Dr. Cristian Morales highlighted Cuba as one of the few countries in the world where the principles and values that are part of the Declaration Alma-Ata have a concrete expression.

The official of the UN international bodies highlighted that the right to health in Cuba is in the center of the attention of the public health system, fighting against inequalities and working in favor of primary attention.
