Cuban Pediatrics to Show Achievements in its CongressHAVAN A, Cuba, Jan 17 (ACN) The Cuban Pediatric Society will hold its Congress, proud of its achievements like the reduction of the infant mortality rate in the country during 2017 with 4.0 per one thousand live births the lowest in history and under five for the 10th consecutive year.

The event, to be held at Havana's Convention Center, will gather 400 specialists, 325 Cuban pediatricians and almost 100 from the United States, Qatar, Mexico, Peru, Dominican Republic and other European countries, announced Dr. Gladys Abreu Suarez, President of the organizing committee.

Renowned professors from Argentina, Colombia and the United States among others have confirmed their participation in this year's event.

Dedicated to preventive aspects, the attention of healthy children and the problems that affect the health of infants and adolescents, the event also includes the 7th International Symposium of Neonatal Intensive Care and Pediatrics and the 2nd International Symposium on Pediatrics, said the Professor and Consultant of the Pediatric Hospital of Centro Habana.

The expert pointed out that the preliminary results of a Cuban vaccine against the NEUMOCOCO that provokes pneumonia, which will be incorporated soon to the vaccination plan.

Among some of the issues to be discussed is Neonatal services: prematurity with a comprehensive focus from the prevention point of view; Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care; infections in children; Program of prevention and therapeutic focus in injured children; and pediatrics. Attention in children with risks. Breastfeeding and human milk banks.

A Cardio-pediatric Network will also be included; nutritional problems: obesity and anemia; comprehensive attention in adolescents; and chronic non-transmittable illnesses.

Dr. Fernando Dominguez Dieppa, President of the Scientific Committee told ACN that 130 works will be presented on different issues.

The jury will grant the Liane Borbolla Award to a renowned Cuban pediatrician in assistance, education and research.

They will also grant the Angel Arturo Aballi (1880-1952) award, paying tribute to the founder of the Cuban Pediatric Society 90 years ago, in three categories; assistance pediatric and basic pediatric, this directed to applied clinical research, he said.
