Cuban Experts to share Experiences on Board of Swiss Scientific Ship

Cuban Experts to share Experiences on Board of Swiss Scientific ShipHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 1 (acn) Experts from Cienfuegos Environmental Studies Center (CEAC by its Spanish acronym) will present their experiences tomorrow at the Swiss scientific boat Race for Water Odyssey, anchored at the Sierra Maestra Cruise Terminal in Havana Bay.

PhD. Carlos Alonso will be the moderator of a workshop on the impact of plastics on life, CEAC experts told ACN.
Arianna Garcia, CEAC researcher, will offer preliminary results in the study of emerging pollutants, one of the most recent initiatives undertaken by her center.
A similar meeting, but devoted to the use of renewable energies, took place in the vessel itself, which arrived in Havana last July 21, where it will stay until August 8 as part of its tour around the world over a period of five years.
A joint expedition will begin next Thursday on the coast of Havana to study the impact of marine pollution caused by plastic and micro-plastic debris, dragged into Cuban coasts by the currents of the Atlantic Ocean.
The ship is a self-sustaining prototype which uses, for its navigation and life on board, clean and renewable energy provided by 512 square meters of solar panels installed on its deck.
Its first expedition was in 2015 and after observing the dramatic contamination by plastics it began the second one from 2017 to 2021, five years during which its crew will devote to preserve the seas and the energy transition through science, technological innovation and social actions.
On August 8, the Race for Water Odyssey will sail to the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Panama and California, according to the planned route.
