Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Jun 26 (ACN) The western province of Pinar del Rio, site of the main activity on the occasion of National Rebelliousness Day next July 26th, registered an infant mortality rate of 2 per one thousand live births in the first semester of this year.
According to Dr. Ariel Godoy del Llano, Sub Director of the Provincial Health Center, the province's stability in the maternal-infant program in recent years, the 58 thousand 770 surgeries carried out during the past year and voluntary blood donations in the same period are some of the highlights in the health sector in that region.
He added that Pinar del Rio has not reported any cholera cases since 2014 and since April of this year to date, no illnesses transmitted by mosquitos has been informed, thanks to the work of the Party, Government, hygiene and epidemiology and the support of the Armed Forces who help in the intensive phase of the anti-mosquito campaign.
Another of the successes of the province and of great impact among the population is the community work in the services sector with the presence of over 20 specialists in the province's 15 policlinics every 15 days.
Godoy del Llano insisted in the preparation of 4 thousand 577 doctors and 5 thousand 635 nurses in the health assistance system of Pinar del Rio and highlighted the health professionals for their sense of obligation and dedication with the objective of improving the quality of services to the patients.
In rural areas or of difficult access, the residents of Pinar del Rio have 24 emergency services, reinforced with clinical laboratories, observation wards, and high tech emergency equipment, among others, to help with a quick recovery process for the patients.
He pointed out that as an example of the solidarity spirit lead by the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, 3 thousand 106 health professionals are offering their services in 43 countries, with major presence in Venezuela and 826 in Brazil.
The 626 family doctors' offices work efficiently and have the basic specialties to carry out consults; comprehensive medicine, obstetrics and pediatricians.
The Provincial Sub Director added that 94 of the doctors are based in the Turquino Plan, and 100 percent are covered with doctors and nurses; they stand out for their maternal-infant program.
The life expectancy for the people in Pinar del Rio was only 53 before January of 1959, and today it registers 79, due to the advances in all levels of Health Care.
