Specialized Policlinic Reopens in Ciego de Avila

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Jun 6 (acn) A specialized policlinic in the city of Ciego de Avila reopened on Tuesday with a service that includes modern technology thanks to an investment of over 7 million 800 thousand pesos in its first stage.

The installation reopened with services in rheumatology, physiatrist, gynecology, pediatrics, neurology among others to complete 27 specialties, informed Francisco Sanchez Rodriguez, Director of the medical institution.

The policlinic began its services 34 years ago with only 7 specialties and was undergoing a remodeling process over 36 months ago, divided in four stages, he said.

Sanchez Rodriguez pointed out that among the expanded areas are minor surgery wards, before with only one, and now with a total of four, each one with 6 positions; neck pathology, clinical exam areas, operations and recovery rooms.

Another specialty that has improved its technology is the respiratory department, functional tests to observe lung capacity, said Sanchez Rodriguez.

From the 2nd to the 4th floors, in each one of the waiting rooms there are comfortable seats and a television that transmits health promos, stressed the specialist.

Each room has a telephone, new furniture and the medical personnel has their computers, Internet access and Intranet to the Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Hospital.

Neurologist Carlos Casas Diaz expressed that his office received three well equipped laboratories to carry out different studies, like encephalogram and in the near future pathologies of the peripheral nervous system.

Casas Diaz explained that his specialty will assist patients with epilepsy, degenerated illnesses and problems with movements and cerebral-vascular issues.

Felix Duarte Ortega, First Secretary of Ciego de Avila was present at the inauguration and spoke to patients urging to take care of the health installation because the Government spent over 20 million pesos in the investment and will continue refurbishing to upgrade the emergency ward with all its diagnosis equipment and other services.
