First VP Diaz-Canel inaugurates Cuban Sports Research Center

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 22 (acn) Miguel Diaz-Canel, Cuba´s first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, presided over the inauguration of the Cuban Sports Research Center.

René Romero, director of the institution, said that this was created with the mission of contributing to the sustainability of the achievements of the Cuban sports movement from scientific research, in pursuit of improving the quality in the practice of physical activity and training of athletes and professionals.
Equipped with advanced technology, the enclave will aim at the development of studies applied to sport, will promote innovation in finding solutions to problems associated with the athletic field, and will provide services related to the training and teaching of athletes.
Romero stressed that the Research Centre will develop specialized products in terms of programs and automated systems for the evaluation of sports training and physical activity, based on the experience of its technical staff and technological capacity.
The institution will seek to occupy a space of reference in the national and international scientific research for solving demands of sport for all, high performance and development of human talent, the official added.
Olga Lidia Tapia, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Jose Ramon Fernandez, president of the Cuban Olympic Committee; and Antonio Becali, president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, were present at the opening of the center.
