PAHO Supports Study in Mayabeque

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 12 (acn) The Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) is promoting a research project on risk factors related to chronic non-transmissible diseases in Mayabeque.

As it was known, the project is the first of its kind in Cuba and ten doctor's offices of the Felo Echezarreta polyclinic of the provincial capital were chosen with this purpose.
According to statements to the press by Edgar Tijerino, coordinator of the project, it is aimed at diagnosing risk factors in the population selected and for this task they have state of the art instruments.
Also participating in the project are the institutes of oncology, cardiology and endocrinology of Havana, which will train the staff of the territory involved in the project.
Mayabeque is one of the provinces with the highest mortality from chronic diseases throughout the country and heart attacks and other diseases are expected to decrease so the study will be conducted in over 19 year olds living in urban and rural areas of the North People's Council and totals more than 7,000 patients.
