NGO Gives Prize to Cuban Physicians who Fought against EbolaHAVANA, Cuba, Jul 8 (acn) The Canadian NGO Help Fight Ebola Canada (HFEC) acknowledged the important contribution of the Cuban government and physicians in the struggle against the global pandemic of Ebola with the handing over of the Friends of Africa Humanity Award, which was received in a special ceremony by the Consul General of Cuba to Toronto, Javier Domokos.

While receiving the award on behalf of the Cuban government and physicians, the diplomat recalled the important contribution of Cuba and 256 doctors in response to the call to help the fraternal continent, at a time when panic and individualism prevailed in the midst of one of the most recent health crises faced by the world, the Granma daily reported.
"The Cuban physicians were already in the affected areas when the epidemic occurred, as part of the long history of the island's solidarity with African nations, where more than 70,000 health professionals have already offered their services," asserted the Cuban official.
Domokos acknowledged that thanks to the humanist and universal vision of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, the country has put at the disposal of many fraternal nations in the world the service of its doctors through the solidarity work of the Henry Reeve International Brigade, specified the Cuban Foreign Ministry's Web site.
Ndaba Mandela, grandson of legendary anti-apartheid fighter Nelson Mandela, addressed participants in the ceremony, which was also attended by renowned authorities of the political, scientific and business life of Canada.
