HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 19 (acn) The Cuban Ministry of Public Health released an information note on the diagnosis of the fifth confirmed imported case of Zika virus.
The note specifies that it's a 7 year-old patient who arrived in Cuba on March 9 from Brazil, where he traveled for personal matters.
The text adds that he started having a fever in the night of March 11 and went to the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK) on March 13, where he was admitted. The following day rash extended from his neck to his thorax and arms, and also showed tiredness and pain in the lumbar region. At the same time all actions of epidemiological surveillance and vector control were performed.
On March 17, the IPK lab informed that, according to tests, the patient had contracted the Zika virus, continues the note.
He is presently hospitalized and in good general condition, concludes the document.
