Cuba: Pioneer in Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV, Says UNICEF

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 5 (acn) The Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) highlighted on Thursday Cuba's efforts in eliminating mother to child transmission of HIV / AIDS and syphilis.

According to a note by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Board's director, Ted Chaiban, congratulated the island for the recent notification issued by the World Health Organization, certifying the country as the first in the world to eradicate this transmission.
The acknowledgement took place during a debate on the implementation of the recommendations adopted at previous meetings of the Coordinating Board of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV / AIDS.
Carlos Fidel Martin, an official of the Directorate of International Economic Organizations of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment, who participates as a member of the Board, expressed his appreciation for the official statement expressed by the director of UNICEF.
In his speech, Martin expressed Cuba's will to work on the development of projects with other countries, based on the strengths and potential that the island has accumulated over the last few years in the fight against HIV / AIDS and syphilis.
