Tropical Cyclone Joaquin Continues Intensifying

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 1 (acn) The Forecast Center of the Cuban Meteorology Institute issued its tropical cyclone warning number eight, which includes the following information:

During the evening, Hurricane Joaquín continued to strengthen, gaining more intensity. It has maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, and its central pressure dropped to 951 hPa, making it a Category Three hurricane on the Saffir Simpson scale.
At midnight, the center was estimated at 23.7 degrees north latitude and 73.2 degrees west longitude, position that places it at 460 kilometers east-southeast of Nassau, in the northern Bahamas.
Joaquín continues its movement to the southwest, at a far slower rate of 9 kmph.
Over the next 12 to 24 hours, the hurricane will continue with the same course with the possibility of continuing to intensify.
