HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 11 (acn) This past month of July ended up being the third hottest in Cuba since 1951, with an average temperature of 28.2 Celsius degrees, 0.7 more than the historical measurement for this month.
According to data released by the Weather Center of the Cuban Meteorology Institute, the highs averaged 33.1, while the lows were 23.3.
Along the 31 day period, 11 records were set in different weather stations scattered throughout the country, with the highest value, 38.2 degrees registered last Wednesday in the eastern Santoago de Cuba municipality of Contramaestre.
It is worth nothing that there was a report for an absolute record in Cuban history for any month of 39.3 degrees in Granma province, but it is under study, since it wasn't registered by the weather system, but by a newly installed facility.
In Havana city, the station, located atop the bay, recorded 20 days of intense heat (over 30 Celsius degrees), three more than the traditional ones.
