HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 4 (acn) The Brazilian More Doctors medical program arrives at its second year since its setting up guaranteeing medical assistance to 63 million Brazilians.
President Dilma Rousseff is presiding over a ceremony to mark the occasion today in the capital Brasilia.
The program counts on 18 thousand 240 doctors, out of whom 11 thousand 487 are Cubans. The program is operating in 34 special indigenous districts and 4 thousand 58 municipalities, standing for 72,8 percent of all Brazilian cities, said health minister Arthur Chioro.
The program provided the access to health care to the poorest Brazilians, those most affected by social inequality, said the official.
The leader of the Workers´ Party at the Chamber of Deputies, Siba Machado, said that the program has contributed to the democratization of health services in Brazil and it is a revolution expanding to all cities and towns located far from the big urban areas.
