HAVANA, Cuba, May 20 (acn) Eminent Cuban specialists and professors Alfredo Ceballos and Rodrigo Alvarez Cambras were presented with awards by the Association of Orthopedics and of Mazatlan in Sinaloa, Mexico.
In the International Course "External fixation, origin, evolution and future," recently held in that city, the work of Mexican doctor Fernando de la Huerta was also acknowledged, according to a note published by the Infomed Web site.
The three prominent experts in this field stand out in the "Mexican orthopedic armamentarium" for their role in the introduction and development of treatments with the external fixation of bones, underlines the source.
Among academic activities carried out at the scientific meeting were the exhibition of sets of instruments and equipment.
The external fixators have been used effectively in war victims in Iraq and Iran, in car accidents, in situations of traumatisms and in other conditions, added the prestigious expert.
Alvarez Cambras, head of the National Group of Orthopedics, said that they are currently used in most of Latin America, as well as in the U.S., Canada, France and Spain and in Arab and African countries.
