The FAO Highlights Cuba's Willingness to Conserve SoilsLAS TUNAS, Cuba, Apr 1 (acn) Theodor Friedrich, representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), asserted on Tuesday in this city that in Cuba there's political willingness to boost productive practices without degrading soils.

The specialist was invited by the Vladimir lIich Lenin University to give a lecture on world tendencies to protect soils, on the occasion of the declaration of 2015 as International Year of Soils.
Friedrich told the press that the island expanded the experience of experimental areas to the municipal level, while conservation agriculture is introduced in the country's agriproductive development policies.
He added that the FAO appreciates the interest of governmental institutions in the sustainability of food production, in addition to the fact that there's also support of research centers ands universities.
Born in the 1970s, conservation agriculture has, among its objectives, the elimination of soil tilling and crop diversification, aimed at revitalizing soils and eliminating degradation.
