Cuba and Mexico Sign University Cooperation AgreementsHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 25 (acn) The signing of more than twenty interuniversity cooperation agreements in just two exchanging days was the result of the 13th Cuba-Mexico Meeting of Rectors which concluded here yesterday.

María Victoria Villavicencio, Director of International Relations of the Ministry of Higher Education, highlighted in the conclave the need to make more attractive the academic services offers for students and teachers of that northern nation given the decline in 2014 of scholarship holders from that country compared to previous years.

Hence the importance of refining exchange mechanisms and creating a computerized system that records the strengths and potentials of Cuban and Mexican universities, she said.

Jaime Valls, general secretary of the ANUIES of Mexico, invited to strengthen working networks in priority issues for both governments as generation of power, agribusiness, health, information and sport

He also spoke of the possibility of focusing on projects to raise the interest of the business sector of international organizations that can serve as sources of financing, so that research conducted jointly to be sustainable.

Finally, the Cuban Deputy Minister Aurora Fernandez called in her closing remarks to design standards for quality management that prioritize social responsibility and the territorial impact of career programs as indices of academic excellence.

Cuba and Mexico have signed 10 ministerial agreements to which must be added more than 200 established between their academic institutions that maintain rector relations since 1986.
