Cuba assesses the role of social sciences in the country

Havana, Sep 30 (ACN) The need to strengthen the social sciences system from institutions and promote the study of social and economic phenomena was the focus of a video conference held at the Information Technology and Advanced Telematic Services Enterprise.

Eduardo Martinez Diaz, Cuban minister of science, technology and environment (Citma by its Spanish acronym); Susely Morfa Gonzalez, head of the social sector attention department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; and Luis Velazquez Perez, president of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba (ACC), led the discussions with experts in the field.

The analyses of the meeting focused on the functioning of the Technical Advisory Councils of the agencies and the role they play in the advancement of science, technology and innovation in the country.
Martinez Diaz, head of Citma, called for redirecting projects towards phenomena that affect the nation.

For her part, Morfa Gonzalez proposed the constitution of a site where social science projects are integrated and visible to both researchers and decision-makers, and to invite young people to these meetings.

She advocated for a stable functioning of the social science pole, for integration with other agencies and organizations and for decision-makers and researchers to coincide in analyzing problems and possible solutions.
