Havana, Jul 12 (ACN) The role of Cuban international medical assistance was at the center of a recent three-day meeting in Havana of leaders medical missions abroad.
This was the 22nd meeting of its kind over the past years, which presented the 2023 Cuban Medical Cooperation Year Book, which details the role and work of Cuban medical brigades around the world and pays tribute to Commander of the Rebel Army Jose Machado Ventura, who served as Health Minister from 1960 to 1968.
The director of the publication, Felipe de Jesus Delgado, said that the Year Book defends Cuban medical cooperation amidst discrediting media campaigns designed in the US. The document reveals the commitment to global health by Cuban medical brigades, with over 37 thousand collaborators in 59 countries of the world.
During the meeting, the Cuban Health Ministry acknowledged the work of medical brigades in Algeria, China, Djibouti, Dominica, Gambia, Guatemala, Guinea Bissau, Italy, Qatar, Tanzania, Trinidad-tobago, Uruguay, Saint Lucia and Venezuela, given their efficiency and discipline at work during their term of service –July 2023 to June 2024.
Cuban Health Minister Jose Angel Portal, other health officials and members of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee, attended the meeting.
