HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jul 8 (ACN) The first stage of the new building of the General Hospital Doctor Gustavo Aldereguia Lima, in the municipality of Gibara in the eastern province of Holguin, will be opened soon as part of the works on the occasion of July 26, National Rebellion Day.
The facility will be located in the former psychiatric hospital and will considerably improve the conditions of comfort and infrastructure of the welfare institution, affected in the current location by the proximity of the seawall due to meteorological phenomena and the saltpeter of the sea.
Andres Ricardo Rivas, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, indicated exclusively to the Cuban News Agency, that this phase includes the emergency room, two surgery rooms and the gynecology and obstetrics services, where births will be resumed.
This benefit responds to a demand of the pregnant women of the territory, who for several years have been going to the Vladimir Ilich Lenin General Hospital in the provincial capital, due to the hygienic-epidemiological conditions that prevented these works in the old facility, explained the official.
He pointed out that in August, work will begin on a second period that includes the rest of the health care services, in addition to incorporating a geriatric ward capable of responding to the demographic dynamics, which registers the coastal town as the oldest in Cuba.
Gibara was one of the municipalities of Holguin highlighted in the emulation by the 26th of July for having positive results and indicators in food production, local development, productive chaining and basic services.
