SANTA CLARA, Cuba, May 13 (ACN) At the Jose Luis Miranda University Pediatric Hospital in Santa Clara, in the Cuban central province of Villa Clara, a device was created for the elevation or correction of cranial depressions in neonatal and infant patients.
Angel Serafin Camacho Gomez, pediatric neurosurgeon and creator of the device, told the press that it is a minimally invasive suction device applied to any depression or fracture originated a few hours after the baby is born.
The instrument raises the bony depression to its normal position, thus avoiding major risky surgery, he said.
The expert added that it represents an important saving of foreign currency for the country because it avoids a costly surgery and a long hospital stay in a neonatology or pediatric intensive care unit.
Among the main advantages, he highlighted the speed with which the procedure is performed, since it only takes about one minute, while a surgery requires two to three hours, Camacho Gomez indicated .
The device is already registered and has its official documentation, and was recognized in the first edition of the event Soluciones Salud, as a prelude to the national contest to be held in Villa Clara in the next few days with a greater participation of different sectors
In 2023, Dr. Angel Camacho obtained a national award for the economic and social impact of an innovative equipment applicable to all surgeries that require the opening of the cranial vault, whether traumatic, tumorous, caused by malformations or any neurosurgical affectation with intracranial approach.
