HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 25 (ACN) The Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC by its Spanish acronym) mourned the death, at 65, of Amelia Capote Rodriguez, PhD in Biological Sciences since 1993, Agricultural Engineer, Professor and Senior Researcher at the Alejandro de Humboldt Institute for Fundamental Research in Tropical Agriculture (INIFAT by its Spanish acronym).
In this prestigious institution, she developed her professional work as a specialist in Plant Genetic Resources and Seeds; Biotechnology and Plant Physiology, said the institution in her obituary when referring to who also held the category of Full Academician, in a personal and honorary capacity.
She held the position of Scientific Rector of INIFAT from 2005 to 2018 --it added--, general director of the Liliana Dimitrova Horticultural Research Institute (2011-2012), in the western province of Mayabeque, and president of the Scientific Council of INIFAT (2014- 2021).
Capote Rodriguez was a full academic from 2018-2024 and had been reelected for the next academic year until 2029, she was the author of more than 40 scientific articles published in national and international journals, creator and speaker in more than 80 national and international events.
She was also editor of the Cuban Agrotechnical Journal and received multiple awards, among them, Marcos Marti medals (1997) and for the 500th Anniversary of Havana (2020); in addition to the Carlos J. Finlay Order (2021).
